Dentures

Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth. Replacing missing teeth has many benefits for your health and appearance. Dentures provide support for your cheeks and lips and can improve a person’s ability to speak and eat.

There are two main types of dentures, full and partial. We can help you choose the type of denture that’s best for you and your situation.

A conventional full denture is placed in your mouth after any remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed. Healing may take several months.

An immediate full denture is inserted immediately after the teeth are removed. All impressions are taken before the extraction appointment so we can place your denture right after your teeth are extracted. After the extractions, the bone supporting your teeth reshapes as it heals causing the denture to become loose. Three to six months following the extractions, we will need to reline your denture so they have a nice snug fit again.

A partial denture rests on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth. Sometimes crowns need to be placed on your natural teeth to serve as anchors for the denture.

Due to normal wear, your dentures will need to be relined, remade, or rebased. As we age, our mouth naturally changes. These changes cause your denture to loosen, making chewing difficult and irritating your gums. You should see your dentist, at minimum, yearly for exams.
