Bridges
A bridge is one option that you have when deciding how to deal with a missing tooth or teeth. If you are missing one or more teeth, you may be particularly aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health. Tooth loss can affect the way you eat and speak. It can also change the alignment of your other teeth. It also affects your appearance. The loss of a back tooth may cause your cheeks to sink in and cause your face to look older. A bridge is a restoration that replaces the space where one or more teeth have been lost. A false tooth, which replaces the missing tooth, is attached to crowns which are cemented on the adjacent natural teeth. The crowns serve as a retainer that provides support for the fixed bridge. Only your dentist can remove a fixed bridge. Fixed bridges look, feel, and function like your natural teeth. Once your bridge is cemented, you need to care for it as if it were your natural teeth. Therefore, the bridge needs to be routinely checked by your dentist.
Procedure
The procedure begins with the preparation of your natural teeth. We shape the adjacent teeth to prepare them for the retainer crowns. The next step is to take an impression that is sent to our lab where your new bridge is crafted. While your new teeth are being crafted, we will place a temporary restoration that will resemble your natural teeth. At you second visit, we will place your final bridge comfortably into your mouth. The new bridge will feel exactly like your natural teeth. The bridge is then permanently cemented into your mouth leaving you with a beautifully restored smile.
